RMG’s Great Macmillan Bake Off

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s principal fundraising event for people facing cancer, and this year RMG wouldn’t miss the chance to get involved. Billed ‘The Great Macmillan FIFA Bake Off’ colleagues were challenged to create a master piece themed around football to coincide with the release of FIFA 18.

Colleagues began planning their creations with weeks to spare, determined to impress on coffee morning. To say the results were inspired would be an understatement. Signature bakes included two football pitches complete with working models, a giant sized Xbox controller, multiple footballs, football shirt brownies and football cupcakes. We were also inundated with delicious un-themed donations across our offices, making for a truly spectacular day.

The generosity of everyone on the day was unsurpassed and cakes were soon flying off the tables across our offices. Some colleagues even prepared for the festivities by skipping breakfast so there was more room for cake! (Kudos for commitment). Best tasting and best looking were also crowned after much debate and consideration in the Northwich office.

All funds generated through this coffee morning go towards providing necessary medical, emotional, practical and financial support for people dealing with cancer. It also funds campaigns for better care for those battling the disease. There are now 2.5 million people in the UK living with cancer; by 2030, it will be 4 million people. The aid provided by Macmillan is becoming more vital each year, making each coffee morning an incredibly important fundraising day.

How your money could help:

£28 – could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

£60 – could pay for a Macmillan Grant that buys a good quality liquidiser for someone who can’t eat solid food as a result of their cancer or treatment

£110 – could pay for a Macmillan social worker for a day. They work with community and social services agencies to help people manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.
